Campaigns

Women into Politics supports various campaigns to increase women's participation and representation in decision making at local, national and international levels.

We also support the campaign to free Aung San Suu Kyi, a prominent leader democratically elected in Burma but currently under house arrest.

1   Link   POWER 2010
Power2010 is an important new campaign which is committed to giving
people across the country a real and genuine say in what reforms they
think are needed to make our democracy fairer and stronger. We've
received over 4000 ideas so far and you join the process here:

http://www.power2010.org.uk/page/s/Declaration

The best ideas will be put to a public vote - and the top 5 ideas
selected will become the Power2010 Pledge: which will become the
center of national campaign to change politics from the grassroots up.
Local teams of diverse constituents will take the pledge to all major
political figures and call for them to act on the people's proposals
for democratic renewal. Working together we can fix politics, sign our
declaration of principles here:

Are you part of the debate?

Women’s political representation in the UK is appallingly low. In the House of Commons only 19% of MPs are women. Local government is doing better but still only 30% of local councilors are female. The Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly are closer to equal representation of men and women but there is room for improvement. Overall, the UK is 60th in the international league table of women’s representation.

In 2009, Europeans will elect a new European Parliament and a new European Commission will be appointed. These elected and nominated persons are going to shape our future in Europe, and the “50/50 Campaign for Democracy” aims to ensure that women and men are equally represented among them.

Many prominent persons from across Europe have already given their wholehearted support to the EWL 50/50 Campaign.
